d16 peri
(Persian Mythology)
A benevolent, fairy-like spirit of beauty and light
Built by Edwin “Ted” Cawthorn when he was just 21, Peri was launched in 1949 from the family property at Wattle Grove, Tasmania. She began her sailing life on the Huon River, racing with the Huon Yacht Club and later competing on the Tamar River.
In 2020, Peri found her way back to the Cawthorn family. She had been idle for some time and was in need of considerable work. Her Celery Top Pine deck had lifted and water ingress had begun to affect parts of her internal structure.
After being brought back to Kettering, Peri was made race-ready for a few twilight events and a Derwent regatta before being hauled out in 2023. She is now undergoing a comprehensive restoration by Tasmanian shipwrights, with the family eagerly looking forward to her return to the water in 2026.
