d11 mermaid

(Maritime Folklore)
A mythical sea creature with the upper body of a woman and the tail of a fish.

Built in the 1940s, Mermaid spent many years away from her home waters, eventually finding her way to New South Wales. After several years there, she was brought back to Tasmania during COVID and given a new lease on life.

Her return was followed by a major rebuild in 2024 at Tasmanian Shipwrights & Co. The work went well beyond a cosmetic restoration, with Mermaid requiring new ribs and several replacement hull planks. Her Celery Top Pine planking was retained, while new Huon Pine ribs were fitted to restore the structure of the boat.

Back in the water and unmistakable in her hot pink finish, Mermaid joined the Derwent Class fleet at Kettering. She wasted little time getting back to racing, taking out the 2025 Derwent Class Regatta.

After years away and a rebuild that brought her back from a very uncertain future, D11 Mermaid is once again sailing and racing with the Derwent Class fleet.
