D21 norn

(Norse Mythology)
One of the goddesses who weave the threads of fate.

Built in Trevallyn, Launceston, in 1939, Norn was constructed by her first owners, W. A., R. and D. Gourlay, in their backyard on Forrest Road. Launched in March 1939, she spent more than 80 years sailing on the Tamar, where she raced as an A Class yacht carrying sail number A2.

Over the years, Norn was moored at Gravelly Beach and later Deviot, remaining on the Tamar before finally making the move south in 2022.

As Norn had never raced at Hobart, she had never been allocated a Derwent Class number. When she arrived at Kettering in 2022, she was allocated D21, making her one of the newest additions to the Derwent Class fleet, despite being one of its oldest boats.

Today, Norn is a regular and competitive member of the Kettering fleet, bringing more than 80 years of Tamar sailing history to the Derwent.
